The day my legal divorce process began was the same day I got all of my belongings back from my husband's house- was also the same day that I recieved a call from one of our mutual friends from Iran.
She wasn't aware of my divorce.. at all. She didn't even know that I left my husband's home. That I had been staying with my cousin for months.
This was the first time I was going to share it with her.
I picked up the phone and we talked as usual.. I told her that I have something to tell her..
I told her I am getting seperated from my husband. That I decided to get divorced.
She paused me.
Then she proceeded to tell me something that I didn't expect to hear that night.
She told me that Rafiq was also getting divorced.
My heart dropped.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
She had no idea about what had happened between Rafiq and me. None at all. She was simply sharing news after hearing mine.
As she continued talking, she explained everything- what had unfolded between him and his wife, how their problems had escalated, how both families were now involved, how his wife had left the home, how divorce proceedings were underway.
On the phone I barely said anything- but inside, my thoughts and emotions were overwhelming.
How was this possible?
How could the same thing be happening to both of us at the same time?
How could the timing be so exact?
Did he know about my situation?
My friend kept talking. The call lasted nearly three hours.
That entire night- I couldn't sleep. My heart wouldn't stop racing. I was astonished.
Especially by the timing.
I had always felt that Rafiq’s marriage wouldn’t last. He had never seemed happy, never fully present in it. But I never imagined that his divorce would unfold in parallel with mine.
That realization left me questioning everything.
What was actually happening?
Was there any meaning in this?
Was this part of God’s plan- or was it simply coincidence?
